Circular regarding Mandatory Allotment and activation of UAN through UMANG App using FAT in EPF

Subject: Important Update: Mandatory UAN Allotment & Activation via UMANG App using Facial Authentication (FAT) – EPFO Circular

 

This is to inform you that, as per the recent circular No. WSU/MemberProfilePt1/E-965649/2025-26/22 Date: 30/Jul/2025 issued by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), it is now mandatory for all New Joiners( first-time EPF members who do not have a UAN) to have their Universal Account Number (UAN) allotted and activated using the UMANG App, with the help of Facial Authentication Technology (FAT).

Information:

  • UAN Allotment & Activation: All eligible New Joiners (employees) must ensure that their UAN is allotted and activated.
  • Facial Authentication: The activation process must be completed through the UMANG App using Aadhaar-linked mobile number and the facial authentication feature.
  • Objective: To simplify access to EPFO services, improve authentication security, and support digital governance.

What Employees Need to Do:

  1. Download the UMANG App (Available on Android/iOS).
  2. Register using your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
  3. Activate your UAN using the Facial Authentication feature on the app.
  4. Ensure your Aadhaar is correctly linked to your EPF account.

Note:

Action Required from HR Department:

  • Kindly disseminate this information to all concerned departments branches, and Location extend necessary assistance to employees in completing the activation process.
  • Please ensure that all new Joiners eligible for EPF coverage complete their UAN Allotment and activation via the UMANG App using FAT on the same day of joining, to enable timely payroll processing.

Important: In the event that UAN Allotment and activation is not completed within the specified timeline, the PF contribution of the concerned employee will not be processed for that particular month.

For Existing Members Who Already Have a UAN:

If any employee already has a UAN but is unaware of the number, there is a provision to retrieve the UAN using the following method:

Steps to Know Your UAN:

Here's a step-by-step process:

  1. Go to the EPFO Unified Member Portal: Access the portal at https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/
  2. Locate "Know Your UAN": On the homepage, find and click on the "Know Your UAN" link, often found under "Important Links". 
  3. Enter Mobile Number and Captcha: Input your registered mobile number and the displayed captcha. 
  4. Verify with OTP: Request and enter the OTP sent to your mobile number. 
  5. Provide Personal Details: Enter your name, date of birth, and either your Aadhaar, PAN, or Member ID. 

Display UAN: If the details are correct, your UAN will be displayed on the screen.
